The Iran war is changing the Gulf – why Dubai could still become stronger

The geopolitical situation in the Middle East has worsened significantly in recent weeks. The conflict surrounding Iran is already having a noticeable impact on the entire Gulf region – economically, politically and in terms of security policy.

At the center of this development is one of the world’s most important trade routes: the Strait of Hormuz.

This narrow passage between Iran and Oman transports a significant proportion of the world’s energy supply. Around 20% of the global oil trade and large quantities of liquid gas pass through this route every day.

Even minor military tensions can therefore have a considerable economic impact:

– Rising oil and gas prices

– Higher transport and insurance premiums

– Uncertainty in international trade

– Possible disruptions in global air traffic

The Strait of Hormuz is therefore a key artery for the global economy.

But geopolitical crises not only change energy prices and trade routes – they also change global capital flows.
